Some of the more excruciating moments of I’m A Celeb come from the bush tucker food trials.
Watching Joe Swash or Janice Dickinson swallow a kangaroo testicle or handful of witchety grubs is part of our sick curiosity. It grosses us out, but we kind of want to know what it’d be like.
Most of us – perhaps luckily – will never get to try bugs IRL, but a US restaurant’s newest burger challenge shows that plenty of us are up for it.
Bull City Burger and Brewery in Durham, North Carolina, are currently celebrating an exotic meat month, where diners can sample weird and wonderful delicacies.
They’ve had reindeer meatballs, alligator tubesteak, a camel burger, and a python curry on the menu.
The most horrifying, though, is probably their insect options, which include a tarantula-topped burger and a bug-filled guacamole.
The tarantula burger includes a whole arachnid on top of a beef patty, and customers have to enter a raffle to get the opportunity eat it because it’s been so popular.
Those who have braved it say it tastes like crab but with a more bitterness, and the burger joint say every bite has a new texture and flavour.
Not sure if that’s a good or bad thing?
The brave people who do go through with this culinary challenge bag themselves a free t-shirt too, so all their friends can be aware they’re around a certified maniac.
If you fancy some furry legs on your burger instead of a pickle and a bit of Monterey Jack, you can buy them canned in brine on Amazon.
Or, if you’re in North Carolina, you might be lucky enough to win the Bull City raffle.
They do also serve normal food if you don’t fancy chowing on half the jungle.
