The bridesmaids for Meghan Markle, 36, at the royal wedding on Saturday 19 May have been announced – and none of her close friends have made the cut.

But why will the bride of Prince Harry, 33, not have any of her friends standing in as bridesmaids on the day?

It appears she has chosen to have a children only policy for her bridesmaids; the eldest bridesmaid is just seven years old.

Kensington Palace today released the full list of Meghan’s bridesmaids for the royal wedding day.

The press release reads: “Prince Harry and Ms. Meghan Markle have chosen the following Bridesmaids and Page Boys for their wedding on Saturday 19th May.”’

The full list includes Princess Charlotte, 3, the daughter of Kate Middleton.

Others include Miss Florence van Cutsem, 4, who is the goddaughter of Prince Harry.

Other bridesmaids will include Meghan’s two goddaughters Miss Remi Litt, 6, and Miss Rylan Litt, 7.

But why has Meghan not chosen her friends as her bridesmaids on her special day?

It seems Meghan has followed in Kate Middleton’s footsteps by choosing to only have children as bridesmaids following her down the aisle.

While Kate had her sister, Pippa Middleton, as maid of honour, a Kensington Palace spokesperson previously confirmed Meghan would not be having a maid of honour herself.

“She has a very close-knit circle of friends and she didn’t want to choose one over another,” revealed a spokesperson for the Palace to the Daily Telegraph.

However, she has honoured her best friend Jessica Mulroney in another way, by choosing her children to walk down the aisle.

Miss Ivy Mulroney, 4, the daughter of Jessica and Mr. Benedict Mulroney, will also join the bridesmaids, which as mentioned earlier will include Princess Charlotte and Remi and Rylan Litt.

The fifth bridesmaid is Harry’s goddaughter Miss Zalie Warren, 2, who is the daughter of Zoe and Jake Warren.

It is said Meghan Markle’s mother may walk her down the aisle as the Palace is “scrambling” to resolve matters as her father has reportedly dropped out of the wedding.

Meghan’s mother Doria Ragland, 61, may walk her down the aisle, said a royal historian speaking on Good Morning Britain, as the Palace is said to be “scrambling” to resolve the situation.

Royal historian Victoria Howard told viewers: “I think it would be a lovely touch for Meghan’s mother Doria to walk her down the aisle.”

The news comes as Doria is said to have quit her job at a mental health clinic in Los Angeles.

It follows yesterday’s news Meghan’s father has dropped out. Thomas Markle Sr is said to have staged paparazzi photos of himself in the run up to the wedding.

She also speculated on the palace reaction to this last minute change, suggesting they would be “scrambling”.

“Probably contingency plans in Palace but I don’t think they were expecting this to happen so late,” she said.
