Marcel Brands has spoken out about possible interest from Everton in the immediate aftermath of helping PSV Eindhoven lift the Eredivisie title.

PSV claimed a 24th Dutch title over the weekend with an emphatic 3-0 win at home to Ajax.

And while basking in the glory of the title, Brands was questioned about a potential link to Everton.

With current director of football Steve Walsh’s future under intense scrutiny after last summer’s record-breaking spending spree resulted in a season of huge disappointment at Goodison Park, Brands has been heavily-linked with a switch to the Blues as the club looks into the possibility of reshaping its recruitment strategy.

Brands has earned a reputation as a leading talent spotter in the Netherlands but has insisted PSV is a project he would find it difficult to walk away from.

He told FOX Sports: “We are busy preparing for next season. We started doing so at the winter break. Now it’s time to relax and celebrate.

“I have a contract at PSV. There is interest but is it hard to leave this beautiful place.”

Brands admitted that despite the team’s impressive season, he was apprehensive in the build-up to the big match, writes the Liverpool Echo.

He added: “I have hardly ever been so nervous before.

“That does not happen often, but today I did. It’s a special feeling, I hope nobody has noticed how nervous I was.

“Early in the morning I went out running. When we clinched the title at the end of the 2015/16 campaign, I just felt we would be crowned champions on the day. But this time I doubted if we would be successful.

“I thought we would win the title eventually but I wanted it to be today, in front of a bumper crowd. It can’t get any better than this.”
